DFLP: The massacre of the three leaders in Verdun and the defeat of the enemy at the gates of the Democratic Front›s headquarters in Al-Fakhani

Apr 10, 2025

On the 52nd anniversary of the Israeli aggression against the Lebanese capital, Beirut, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine issued a statement in which it said:
Our struggle against the Israeli enemy has consistently confirmed that resistance, in all its forms, is the only way to confront and deter the enemy›s hostile actions and to defend our people and their national dignity. Any discussion outside this framework is futile, and the bitter experiences of our people and the peoples of the world have proven its failure.
On April 10, 1973, the Israeli enemy carried out a landing operation on the beaches of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, in cooperation with a network of local agents who provided it with means of transportation and movement. The enemy targeted two major targets, causing an uproar and upheaval in Lebanon.
• When he infiltrated Verdun Street, he managed to assassinate the three leaders Kamal Nasser, Kamal Adwan, and Abu Youssef Al-Najjar, members of the Central Committee of the Fatah movement.
• The second goal was when he tried to storm the headquarters of the DFLP in the Al-Fakhani neighborhood, but he clashed with the guards that were on alert, and his mission was foiled and he suffered casualties among his ranks, forcing him to retreat disappointed, carrying his dead and wounded, and leaving behind him military, medical and logistical equipment that he was unable to withdraw under the pressure of the valiant resistance shown by the Democratic Front fighters assigned to guard the headquarters.
In that honorable battle, 6 heroic martyrs of the Democratic Front were martyred:
1) Muhammad Salem Abu Al-Sha’ar; 2) Muhammad Faris Ismail Al-Wais; 3) Ghanem Abdul Rahman Samara; 4) Diab Musa Abu Shahada; 5) Adnan Muhammad Umar; 6) Salah Subhi Ahmad Khalil Al-Saba’a.
The martyred heroes, along with the three leaders Nasser, Adwan, and Al-Najjar, were escorted to their final resting place in the Martyrs› Cemetery in Beirut in a grand procession. Beirut still remembers them and treasures their memory well.
The Israeli enemy, in its statements, declarations and comments, acknowledged the ferocity of the battle it fought in its attempt to raid the headquarters of the Democratic Front under the command of Ehud Barak, who later became Chief of Staff of the enemy army and its Prime Minister. The enemy also admitted that it suffered casualties in the battle, and its statements confirmed that it was surprised by the strength of the Democratic Front fighters, and that it failed to achieve its goal at the time, which was to eliminate the leadership of the Democratic Front in its headquarters in response to a series of heroic operations carried out by the Democratic Front fighters inside the occupied territory.
