To Political Parties and Global Political and Civil Society Organizations Regarding the Democratic Front’s Vision for the Palestinian Legislative Elections and the Decision to Postpone Them

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (D.F.L.P) addresses this Memorandum to political parties, political and civil society organizations, and friendly forces around the world to present its position on the Palestinian Legislative Council elections and the decision to postpone them, as well as its vision for overcoming the crisis of the Palestinian political system amid the ongoing war of genocide and destruction in the Gaza Strip, and the escalating plans for annexation, settlement expansion, displacement, and ethnic cleansing in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.

First) Position on the Elections and the Consequences of Their Postponement: The Democratic Front has consistently emphasized the need to hold the legislative elections on their scheduled date, considering them a national and democratic entitlement that must not be obstructed or postponed, and a key entry point for rebuilding institutions on democratic foundations that strengthen popular participation.

In line with this position, the Democratic Front rejected the postponement of the elections, considering it tantamount to the cancellation of this democratic entitlement. Such a decision opens the door wide to a political vacuum, while creating opportunities for anticipated international interference and pressure.

Second) Comprehensive National Dialogue as the Basis for Overcoming the Crisis: The Democratic Front believes that the proper way to address the emerging crisis is to convene a comprehensive national dialogue involving all factions and national figures, based on a clear and specific agenda addressing the various political and national issues.

At the forefront of these issues are general elections as one of the means of ending the division, rebuilding institutions on the basis of national partnership, and ensuring the participation of all components of the national movement in national decision-making.

Third) Formation of a National Consensus Government and Ending Institutional Division: The Democratic Front calls for the swift formation of a national consensus government to address the institutional vacuum and consolidate the unity of political and legal authority over all Palestinian territories in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.

This would prevent the advancement of American and Israeli plans aimed at entrenching geographical and political separation, imposing external tutelage over the Gaza Strip, and undermining the independence of Palestinian national decision-making.

Fourth) A Binding Roadmap for Holding General Elections: The Democratic Front maintains that the formation of a national consensus government and the rebuilding of institutions must pave the way for elections rather than serve as substitutes for them.

It therefore calls for an agreement on binding dates for presidential and legislative elections, the completion of the reconstruction of the Palestinian National Council, and guarantees ensuring the participation of the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem.

In Conclusion: The Democratic Front calls on political parties and political and civil society organizations around the world to continue their efforts and urge their governments to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation to lift the restrictions that impede the holding of free and fair elections.

The Front expresses its confidence that solidarity from friendly international parties and political forces with the Palestinian people and their national rights, together with the rejection of Israeli crimes, will contribute to strengthening the Palestinian people’s steadfastness, safeguarding their independent national decision-making, and supporting their legitimate struggle to end the occupation, achieve freedom and independence, exercise their right to self-determination, and ensure the right of Palestinian refugees to return.
