Message from the “Department of International Relations of the Democratic Front to the Political, Popular, and Social Frameworks Worldwide on the International Recognition of the State of Palestine

Sep 3, 2025

A Result of Our People’s Steadfastness, Sacrifices, and the Global Popular Movements for Freedom

International relations have witnessed a series of recognitions of states, either individually or collectively, while the Palestinian people have remained alone awaiting the birth of their state—despite it being referenced 78 years ago, when the United Nations General Assembly issued Resolution 181 on November 29, 1947, known as the Partition Plan. The resolution provided for the establishment of two states: one Jewish and one Arab. The first imposed its control through terrorism, massacres, and colonial Western support, while the establishment of the Palestinian state was obstructed as a result of international complicity, Israel’s rejection, and its occupation—considered the last settler-colonial and expulsionist occupation on earth.
Today, in the midst of the genocidal war perpetrated by Israel, in full partnership with the United States of America and with the support of many Western countries, our people everywhere are following reports about certain European states seeking to recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings. We view these recognitions as a contribution to laying the foundations for a balanced solution to the conflict—one that guarantees the Palestinian people their right to freedom and self-determination in an independent, fully sovereign state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital, and ensures the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties from which they were displaced in 1948.
International recognitions of the State of Palestine—granted the status of “non-member observer state” in the United Nations in 2012—can only be seen as the outcome of the steadfastness, resistance, and sacrifices of the Palestinian people, and also of the popular movements organized and joined by the free peoples of the world, defenders of freedom, justice, and democracy. Today, these movements are called upon to continue their struggle in all forms: both towards those countries that have declared their intention to recognize Palestine, in order to consolidate their step, and towards those that have yet to take this step, urging them to do so. We are confident that the popular mobilizations of the forces of freedom in Europe and around the world will ultimately yield pressure on the relevant governments to recognize the State of Palestine.
Recognition of the State of Palestine is a correction of a historic error and injustice endured by the Palestinian people for decades. It is a step consistent with international law, and a commitment to the UN General Assembly resolution of September 2024, which called on Israel to end its “illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territory” within 12 months, based on the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice of July 2024, which affirmed that “the continued presence of the State of Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory is unlawful.”
Ladies and gentlemen, dear comrades,
Although the annexation of vast areas of the West Bank has been the only strategy on the agenda of Israel’s fascist government since 2022—with all that has entailed in terms of killings, displacement, ethnic cleansing, settlement expansion, and home demolitions—we are facing new battles against this scheme. Israel has openly declared its intent to impose so-called “Israeli sovereignty” over the West Bank or large portions of it. This poses a challenge not only to the Palestinian people and the will of the international community, but also to the states that have recognized, or are preparing to recognize, the State of Palestine.
While our people salute and appreciate the countries that have recognized or will recognize the State of Palestine, we are dismayed by the positions of some states that continue to insist on a policy of hypocrisy in dealing with the Palestinian people and their just cause. Seeking to evade this political, legal, and humanitarian responsibility, they tie recognition of the Palestinian state to negotiations—despite constantly invoking the so-called “two-state solution.” This in fact demonstrates their complicity not only in supporting the crimes of the occupation but also in preventing the Palestinian people from living in peace, in an independent and sovereign state on their land, free from occupation and domination.
Linking recognition of the Palestinian state to negotiations and political settlements, as the United States and other Western states do, is the height of political deceit—shielding and protecting those wanted by international courts. What negotiations remain after the U.S. President’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, after moving his country’s embassy there, shutting down the PLO office in Washington, imposing financial and political blockades on UNRWA, recognizing Israel’s annexation of the Syrian Golan Heights, declaring settlements “legitimate,” and endorsing Israel’s claimed right to annex large parts of the West Bank to establish a so-called “Greater Israel”?
We, in the “Department of International Relations of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine,” appeal to political parties, legal frameworks, and popular movements to continue their mobilizations—directing the attention of international institutions toward imposing punitive measures against Israel and isolating it, compelling it to rescind laws and decisions that violate international law and the UN Charter, particularly those targeting UNRWA and various UN institutions and agencies. We further call for serious measures to support the State of Palestine and enable it to exercise its rights over its land—free from all forms of occupation and domination. We categorically reject all alternative schemes, including the Trump–Netanyahu plan and the “Greater Israel” project, and reaffirm that occupation and settlement constitute violations of international law and UN resolutions and must be ended immediately.
