The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine welcomed the proposal of Irish President Michael Higgins to refer the issue of the Gaza Strip to the Security Council under Chapter VII, calling on the Secretary-General of the United Nations to assume responsibility for preserving the security of the region threatened by the Israeli war of genocide against our people in the Strip.
The Democratic Front said: “Our people, as they suffer from a lack of security, food, medicine and water, amidst a brutal war unprecedented in human history, feel deeply grateful for the stances of Ireland and its president, and their call to refer the Gaza Strip issue to the Security Council under Chapter VII, thus putting an end to the American veto, which has turned Security Council sessions into mere chatterboxes and a body incapable of acting in the interests of oppressed peoples, in light of the colonialist stances of the United States”.
In the same context, the Democratic Front called on the Palestinian Authority to move at the United Nations, along with the group of Arab and friendly countries, especially those that recognize the State of Palestine, or that have confirmed their intentions to recognize it next September, to adopt the Irish President’s call, and move to refer the issue of our Palestinian people, and especially the situation in the Gaza Strip, to the Security Council under Chapter VII, so that the international community can bear its moral, political and legal responsibilities, to lift the injustice from the shoulders of our people, who are witnessing an unprecedented famine and starvation in the history of humanity.
The Democratic Front also affirmed our people›s right to demand that the International Court of Justice assume its responsibilities in holding the occupying state accountable for its starvation war against our people, and to demand that the International Criminal Court prosecute everyone who committed a war crime against our people in the Gaza Strip, from Netanyahu to his war ministers, his army chiefs of staff, and his fascist followers in the government.
