DFLP: Suspends Its Participation and Announces Withdrawal from the 32nd Session of the Palestinian Central Council

Apr 23, 2025

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine announced the suspension of its participation and its withdrawal from the 32nd session of the Palestinian Central Council, including all its delegates present in Ramallah and abroad. This decision comes in protest against the lack of response to the framework proposed by the Front’s delegation, which focused on restoring national unity, formulating a national action strategy to confront the consequences of the genocidal war in the Gaza Strip and the annexation plan in the West Bank, as well as the failure to implement the decisions of the National and Central Councils and the outcomes of the Beijing Declaration.
The Democratic Front believes that the path to saving our people and our cause lies solely in unity. Unity is not achieved by deepening divisions, but by seeking common ground. In Beijing, we reached valuable common ground, which we all signed and which can serve as a solid foundation for achieving unity. We had hoped that this session of the Central Council would serve this unifying function.
Therefore, we called for serious preparation through a meeting at the level of general secretaries that includes all Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Unfortunately, this did not happen. The preparations for this session even lacked the minimum level of dialogue among the factions of the PLO to agree on its political and organizational outcomes, as is usually the case. Despite this, we participated in the session to affirm our commitment to coalition within the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization, to its representative role, and to the function of its institutions—a commitment that will always remain, regardless of the circumstances.
Given the gravity of the issues to be discussed during the session, we made one last attempt by proposing during the session to suspend its proceedings for a few weeks to allow for the completion of national dialogues and agreement on its outcomes. Unfortunately, the presidency did not allow this proposal to be presented.
In light of this, and because the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine cannot be a party to bearing responsibility for the outcomes and the potentially grave consequences for the fate of the national cause, it hereby announces the suspension of its participation in the remaining activities of this session and its withdrawal from it.
